Eduardo Bautista is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE), President of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Music, President of the Digital Society of Authors and Publishers
(sDae ), Director General of the Fundación Autor, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Arteria, a member of the Board of Directors of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors Composers and Publishers (CISAC), Vice-President of the European Group of Societies of Authors and Composers (GESAC), Vice President of Latinautor and President of the Spanish Coalition for Cultural Diversity. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA), and Honor Cross of the Order of Jaume I the Conqueridor.
He has been Executive Chairman of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Publishers (CISAC), co-chair of the FastTrack technology alliance, President of the European Bureau of Music (EMO). In 2007 he was honored by the prestigious Billboard magazine as one of the ten most important persons in the music industry worldwide.
Eduardo Bautista was an important player in the musical life in the sixties and seventies. Founder of the group Los Canarios, he subsequently developed activities as director and producer. He also composed the soundtrack of more than forty films and music for over thirty plays.
As manager of the copyrights, it should be noted the profound transformation that took place at the General Society of Authors and Publishers, whose board he joined in 1983, first as Vice President and Chief Executive Officer and later as Chairman of the Board.
Changes in the SGAE since Eduardo Bautista holds an executive position:
- Increase of the royalties distributed to the members from 24 million Euros in 1983 to 345,1 million Euros in 2010.
- Halving of the discount administration, which has fallen from 30% to 15% in recent years.
- Decentralization, promotion and creative development have provided a service closer to its members to streamline its role as a cultural agent in line with prevailing multiculturalism through the ARTeria Multiespacios network, both in Spain and the Americas.
- The promotion, the enhancement of the figure of the Author, and research is carried out by the Fundación Autor, which also instructs the encouragement of the creation of new audiences through such actions as launching the Music Awards, the Theatre Max Awards, of the Recent Spanish Cinema in Los Angeles, the Spanish Film Week in New York, the Cannes Midem, Popkomm and the In Ñ Rock tour, etc.
- The renovation and modernization, strengthening the technological development of cutting edge initiatives like the creation of sDae (Digital Society of Authors and Publishers) with Portal Latino and the CATA center of art and technology.
- This has enabled the number of partners having tripled in the last 20 years, currently amounting to almost 100,000, and managing over five million pieces.
- The internationalization, managing the rights of members’ worldwide and establishing international partnerships, such as management agreements on the music catalogues from Peer Music and Warner Chappell Music in Europe.
