Janine Lorente, Vice-Chair of CISAC Board of Directors / Deputy Director General, SACD (France)
Currently Deputy General Manager of SACD (Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers), Janine Lorente initially started her career occupying various positions in the Society before being appointed Director of International Affairs in 1991 till June 2000. She contributed to providing SACD with a strong foreign policy oriented towards the promotion of the author’s status within international organisations, the recognition of screenwriters and directors as co-authors of audiovisual works in the European directives and the legislation of various countries in Central and Eastern Europe (before they joined the EU) as well as in third countries. She also contributed to the creation of the Federation of European Screenwriters and of several collective management societies for audiovisual rights, mostly in Central and Eastern Europe.
In June 2000, Janine Lorente joined the Directors Guild of America (DGA) in Los Angeles as their Director of International Affairs till September 2003. There, she strengthened DGA’s position on the international scene and within the European institutions where, at the time, the studios’ point of view on the American audiovisual industry was the only one heard. She set up a network of Guilds and associations dedicated to improving the protection of directors’ rights in English speaking countries and restructured the collection and distribution department for foreign rights. She also negotiated several new contracts with American producers.
Since 2004, she reorganised SACD and successfully conducted a complete overhaul of the Society’s information system. She positioned SACD on the new on-line audiovisual markets and implemented a policy offering authors a global service for all their activities and taking into account users specific needs and economic capacity.
